Tokyo Station Marunouchi Station Building Originally built in 1914, Tokyo Station is sometimes referred to as the "gateway to Tokyo." For roughly 60 years, the station building had a makeshift roof and only two floors, but its 2012 restoration brought back the third floor and octagonal dome roof. A new plaza in front of the station was completed in 2017. Station building includes a hotel and gallery.
