The young conqueror of the keyboard (New York Times) Daniil Trifonov releases Chopin Evocations, a double album featuring world premiere recordings of Mikhail Pletnevs orchestrations of the Chopin piano concertos as well as a range of solo works, from early (Variations on La ci darem la mano Op.2) to late (Fantaisie-Impromptu Op.66).

Star pianist and composer Daniil Trifonov burst onto the international music scene at the International Chopin Competition in 2010. He then went on to win the Grand Prize at the 2011 Tchaikovsky Competition performing Chopin’s 1st Piano Concerto in the final round. Standing for virtuosity, musical poetry and evocative power, he is the world’s top young pianist today – and the music of Chopin is close to his heart.

This is one of the most exciting recordings of 2017: two-and-a-half hours of music uniting Chopin’s two beautiful piano concertos with Chopin solo works and pieces by Mompou, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Barber paying homage to the genius Chopin who, in Trifonov’s words, “revolutionized the expressive horizons of the piano.”

The atmospheric tenth variation of Mompou’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin is entitled “Evocation” and in its poignant transformation of Chopin’s famous melodies, inspired the name of this album.

Complementing the Chopin repertoire on Evocations are pieces paying homage to Chopin, by Mompou, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Barber.
